this means the driver you are installing is not correct.

you can let Windows to automatically search new hardware. The driver should be shipped with Windows.

Well, I downloaded this driver from Dell web site for my laptop for Win 7…

Once I copy it to guest local C drive installation begins normally. However, interestingly enough that other software I can install from shared location.

ok, interesting to know that. network shared folders have different security descriptors, might be the cause.

Possibly… I tried both: double click to run it and right click and run it as admin... neither works from shared location. May be I’m missing something else…
