If possible, try the to use Ethernet cable, instead of WIFI connection for the Pi device. With WIIF, it may auto disconnect, and rplay does not handle that well yet.

Sounds like a good idea. I will try running an Ethernet cable to it as soon as possible!

Some feedback / reports on a Model B (using ethernet) setup following this: adventuresandwhathaveyou.wordpress.com/2...berry-pi-with-rplay/

(sorry I haven't read the whole thread so don't know if these have come up before).

General

- When I stream it only sends the video data, so if my video is not the same ratio as the display I can see the content "behind" the video. So my movie has the Pi console session in the background! This might be a Pi configuration problem. Is there a way around this? Perhaps to show a blank "background" behind the stream? I imagine this will be a common complaint...
- rplay.log in /var/log/ exists but is empty (I guess you know this from the mention in the setup email of running in the foreground to see feedback). Enabling a proper log would be really good

Airplay

- If I open iTunes (v11.1.4 on Mac 10.7.5) it reliably sees rplay.
- If I hit the Airplay icon before selecting a video and choose rplay as the destination, I get a error message in iTunes "The Airplay device "rplay" is not compatible with this version of iTunes". The log output is:
Code:

raop connection init(conn=0x24b3040)
failed to connect to server: test.vmlite.com:9080
raop connection destroy:conn=0x24b3040
raop connection init(conn=0x24b3040)
failed to connect to server: test.vmlite.com:9080
raop connection destroy:conn=0x24b3040

However if I select a video to start playing, then select rPlay as the Airplay destination it works great.

- I get the same error message as above when trying to stream from some 3rd party apps on iOS 7 (e.g. BBC iPlayer app). In fact trying to stream from BBC iPlayer breaks things somehow. After I try and fail in iPlayer, then iOS can no longer detect rPlay. However iTunes can still detect / stream to rPlay.

- detection of rPlay as an Airplay destination in iOS 7 is generally pretty ropey. When it works, it is great in native apps (e.g. Photos, Videos). Not as reliable in 3rd party apps. Sometimes I can make it detect rplay by opening the Videos app, starting a video playing then pausing and bringing up the Airplay menu. It then shows in other apps too. It randomly disappears too.

Chromecast
- Chromecast detection and playing from YouTube app on iOS 7 works great. However if I switch videos during playback the current video keeps playing and the new one doesn't start.

- Some videos seem to be not compatible. Log:

- When I got this error and closed the video in the YouTube app I then got this in the log:

rPlay's not doing bad for a beta! I look forward to the next version.

Is it posible to connect three raspberries with rPlay on the same network?

When I connect them I only see one in the list of Airplay devices in my iPad mini (with IOS 7.04)

In spite of this when I use Airparrot in a Macbook with OSX 10.6.8 I can see every device in the list of Airplay devices.

What is the problem? Is it a rPlay problem with IOS 7?

Can I solve it in some way?

Thanks in advance

First of all, thanks for the rplay app, as I read so far, there are situations, when it is working.
So it is allmos sure, that this issue is my fault

I have a raspberry pi, (rev B, with 512MB ram), whit a clean install of 2014-01-07-wheezy-raspbian.
It is connected via cable to my tp-link router, and my iDevices (iPhone 4s with 7.0.4, and a MacBookPro, Early 2011 with 10.9.1 ) are connected via wifi, and the wifi signal is strong enough.

On the raspberry only the ssh is enabled, and I have double checked, there is no firewall.

I had the following commands to install rplay:
Code:

sudo apt-get install rpi-update # [b]# no error[/b]
sudo rpi-update [b]# no error[/b]

sudo raspi-config #set graphic memory to 256
reboot

sudo apt-get install libao-dev avahi-utils libavahi-compat-libdnssd-dev libva-dev youtube-dl [b]# no error[/b]
sudo youtube-dl --update [b]# it displays: youtube-dl is up-to-date (2014.02.08.2)[/b]

wget -O rplay-1.0.1-armhf.deb http://www.vmlite.com/rplay/[b]rplay-1.0.1-armhf.deb[/b] [b]# no error[/b]

sudo dpkg -i rplay-1.0.1-armhf.deb  [b]# no error[/b]

I have the License Key (thank you for it )

In my MBP I opened the url <ip of your RPi>:7100/admin, entered the usernam and password without any problem.
I entered the Licese Key, and started the rplay.

But neither on iphone, or on MBP the ariplay did not appear.

I tried to restart rplay with
Code:

sudo /etc/init.d/rplay stop
sudo /etc/init.d/rplay start

but after this I was not able to access the <ip of your RPi>:7100/admin page. I had to reboot the raspberry.

The only way was for me to make (ai)rplay visible, was to change the "rPlay Display Name". After that it appeared on both device.
Unfortunately I was not able to connect to rplay.

on iphone:
- rplay is visible, if I tap on the "ariplay" it displays the phone, and the raspberry, but if I tap on raspberry it "reverts" itself to iPhone
- it happened with and without mirroring

on macbook:
- airplay icon appeared on the top, I was able to click on the raspberry, but it said after a few seconds: unable to connect

here are the log from my macbook:

I have tried to run manually the rplay, in this case I saw the following error message on raspbery:
Code:

raop connection init(conn=0x1af04b8)
failed to connect to server: test.vmlite.com:9080
raop connection destroy:conn=0x1af04b8
raop connection init(conn=0x1af04b8)
failed to connect to server: test.vmlite.com:9080
raop connection destroy:conn=0x1af04b8

The other interesting thing, that the rplay log (/var/log/rplay.log) is empty.
The summary is that rplay didn't work with any of my devices so far.
Can someone help me? What is the problem with my method?
