Can you check if your grub.cfg file indeed has recover_mbr option. It is possible vbootedit.exe didn't insert it correctly. You can do it manually by editing grub.cfg:

menuentry "my entry"
{
vboot cdrom=c:\my.iso boot=cdrom recover_mbr
}

how to use restore_mbr ?

vbootedit.exe install /drive C: /mbr
vbootedit.exe create title="my entry" cdrom=c:\my.iso boot=cdrom recover_mbr
don't remove vboot

recover_mbr it's not added to grub.cfg
hope in a instant fix to avoid the manual entry.

I am afraid not, I couldn't reproduce that bugcheck error. We did something on that portion of code, but not sure if it fixed it.

For drive Vista D: problem, not easy to fix, need to change lots of registry key. You said you have problems installing from physical cdrom or ISO? if you install Vista that way, it will go to C:

ISO and DVD doesn't work. Only the WIM to VHD way works. This is also the way I create my Windows7 VHD (with the WIM2VHD script).

When I use the Windows 7 WIM the drive is C. Why is it different in Vista?

Vista WIM has hard coded paths using D:\ in its registry key. We will try to find a way to change that, then will work.

What is the error when installing from ISO/CDROM? always works here.
