We will release an Android version of rPlay for Banana Pi.

Banana Pi is much more powerful than Raspberry Pi, most importantly it runs Android (4.4) very smoothly.

The biggest issue with Raspberry Pi is that its cpu is very slow, and can NOT run Google Chrome browser, so full support of Chromecast is not possible, as Chromecast requires Chrome browser, the Raspberry Pi version of rPlay only has limited support of YouTube, a tiny portion of Chromecast.

Now with Banana Pi, we can support everything, AirPlay, AirPlay mirroring, and full Chromecast, in addition, Miracast working very well on Banana Pi.

So, I highly recommend buying a Banana Pi, instead of Raspberry Pi.

You can find more info here:

www.bananapi.com

we will release a rPlay version on Banana Pi soon.

If any of you are interested in ordering a Banana Pi, please post here. We can get a batch at wholesale price.

In my opinion, Banana Pi is superior to Raspberry Pi in every aspects in terms of hardware specifications.

Hi

Will this android version of rplay work on other devices than banana pi?

I just ordered this one (Odroid U3) just before I heard about this awesome project. I think I would have ordered banana pi instead if I knew this.

This Odroid U3 runs Android, and Ubuntu linux

Yes, in theory, our rPlay will work on any Android devices.

In practice, Android 4.3 and above has better chances. Does this board supports Android 4.4? and hardware decoding?

ODROID U3 support Android 4.4.4 and it has hardware decoding. The CPU is the same as Samsung S3, and it has 2 Gb of ram. So I suppose it will work with rplay for android

If it's S3 compatible, then no problem. We tested rPlay on S3 with Android 4.1.1, working very well.

rDisplay works too, so you can actually cast the screen (audio/video) from the board to a PC, for example, then remote control the board using pc mouse and keyboard. This way, the board can be headless, easier for development.
